New 2011 Wedding Hair and Makeup Ideas from the Runways
Our favorite makeup and hairstyles from the Fall 2011 bridal market shows were pretty and, most importantly. A demure, clean French twist with a deep side part had a retro, high society feel, while the makeup was pure pretty: a mild smoky eye was created by smudging a charcoal gray eye pencil near the lashline, and cheeks were given a natural, glowy look with soft pink blush (Makeup Forever’s Sculpting Blush in #8). Above, The classic red lip was created with Kiko Make Up Milano’s Smart Lipstick #84. (Make it last for hours by filling in lips with a neutral-colored liner, applying the lipstick with a brush, blotting with tissue, applying lipstick one more time, and then doing one final blot.) The look was finished with bronzed cheeks and soft, matte eyes, since any shimmer would have taken attention away from the lips. by Priscilla of Boston. Below, For a collection inspired by the gardens of Paris, hair was given a deep side part, then pulled into a low side ponytail on the opposite side, and secured with both fabric and real orchids. The doll-like makeup focused on rosy pink cheeks (try Shu Uemura’s Glow On Blush in m 33e) and an “invisible” smoky eye created with silver and nude eyeshadows.by Ines DiSanto.
The glamorous women of the late 1930s inspired the smoky purple eyes and wine-colored lips at Anne Barge. Skin was given a glowy porcelain sheen by mixing foundation with Smashbox’s Artificial Light Luminizing Lotion. Hair was curled and set for volume, then finger-combed back into a low ponytail and pinned up in two-inch sections to create a loose-but-polished chignon. by Anne Barge.
The collection’s diaphanous yet sculptural wedding dresses inspired makeup that was transparent and intense at the same time. M.A.C.’s Chromagraphic eye pencil in Black Black was blended into the lashline, and a taupe sculpting powder was used in lieu of eyeshadow for a defined but sheer effect. Sweet peach-colored cream blush and bright pink lipstick (M.A.C.’s Lickable) completed the modern, feminine look. by Rivini.
Mad Men-inspired retro ponytails were given a soft, romantic edge by using just a light swipe of styling wax, in lieu of strong-hold gel or hairspray, to keep flyaways at bay. The makeup was soft and warm, with a neutral-colored smoky eye and pinky brown lips (try M.A.C. lipstick in Del Rio). by Alfred Angelo.
