Best Real Weddings of 2009 part.2
Allie and Brian in Mendocino, CA
Exuberant colors, lush flowers, and playful details offset a rustic, rural seaside setting at this wedding. A local folk and bluegrass group played at the ceremony, which featured a wooden arch made by the bride’s father (he also created the centerpiece boxes, which the florist filled with seasonal flowers). At the reception, guests helped themselves to a candy buffet featuring the couple’s favorite childhood treats, like Zotz, Lemonheads, and Boston baked beans; fun props like fake mustaches and boas were also on hand.
Myriah and Christopher in Calistoga, CA
The bride, a fashion designer, custom-made the gorgeous bridesmaid dresses and flower girl dress for her wedding at a romantic, secluded winery. After cocktail hour in the winery’s open-air teahouse, which was decorated with lanterns, tea candles, and rose petals, everyone headed into the candlelit wine cave for dinner. The couple and their 70 guests all sat at a dramatic, long dinner table decorated with arrangements of blush pink and white peonies.
Kaitlin and Ryan in Spring Lake, NJ
Winter weddings don’t have to mean a red and green color scheme with snowflake motifs on every detail, as this stylish couple proved with their vintage-inspired February affair. Bridesmaids wore plum-colored dresses with cameo brooches affixed at the waists, while the bride accessorized with a retro birdcage veil. Other stylish details included ceremony programs designed to look like old-fashioned telegrams, a vintage-style bride-and-groom cake topper, and an antique Franklin auto from the late 1920s used as a getaway car.
Josephine and PJ in Philadelphia, PA
After a traditional Catholic ceremony at the bride’s family parish, the couple and their guests celebrated with a rock ‘n’ roll-infused affair at a restaurant and live-music venue. Instead of cake, the couple served cannolis presented on a display custom built by the bride’s father and brother; the groom, who sings and plays guitar, performed a song he wrote for his bride; and the sequin- and feather- bedecked mummers of the South Philadelphia String Band got the party started with their high-energy dance moves.
Erin and Jeremiah in Leucadia, CA
After a private ceremony on a stretch of beach in front of their home during which the couple and the bride’s two sons all pledged vows to one another, their guests joined them on the beach for a Champagne toast followed by a reception on the deck. The kid-friendly party included two caricaturists, and artists making balloon animals and creating airbrush tattoos.
