Best Real Weddings of 2009 part.3
Kristina and Brock in Palm Springs, CA
Relaxed desert chic and 1930s-inspired glamour combined to result in this fabulous Southern California wedding. The bride, who wore a stunning silk bias-cut gown, created the invitations and centerpieces (featuring succulents she grew in her backyard) herself. After dinner and dancing to retro tunes, the couple and their late-night revelers went downstairs to the hotel’s underground speakeasy for an after-party that included poker and more dancing.
Allison and Mark in Glen Ellen, CA
A sunny color scheme set the tone for a rustic yet polished-looking reception held inside a split-level cedar barn on the grounds of a scenic ranch in Sonoma Valley. The artistic Brooklyn-based couple, both graphic designers, created all the wedding’s whimsical paper elements themselves, using a combination of their own handwriting, scanned fabrics, rubber stamps, and illustrations.
Camille and Christopher in Winterthur, DE
The perfectly art-directed mix-and-match aesthetic of this wedding made it stand out to us. Reception tables were topped with crewelwork fabric from the mother-of-the-bride’s collection of vintage textiles, and each floral arrangements featured a different mix of brightly-colored blooms arranged in vases collected by the bride. Bridesmaids’ bouquets featured peacock feathers, a detail also found on the bride’s whimsical headband.
Kathryn and Oliver in Windsor, CT
A relaxed country wedding held on the grounds of the bride’s childhood home was filled with creative style ideas, like a canoe filled with ice and repurposed as a drinks cooler, a rented jukebox for late-dancing so that guests could select the tunes themselves, and a spread of sweet mini cakes on vintage cakestands
Christina and Brandon in Lancaster, PA
A rustic barn in a rural setting called for homespun details, like a boutonniere fashioned from wheat grown on the groom’s family’s farm in Nebraska, and a spread of assorted pies for dessert. Decorations included bales of hay topped with vintage wooden crates containing ornamental kale and chili peppers, and guests were served cinnamon sangria, made using the bride’s recipe, in vintage juice glasses (guests were invited to take them home as favors at the end of the night).
