English Royal Wedding: Zara Phillips & Mike Tindall

Glorious sunshine was the order of the day for the next Royal Wedding to take place – this time for Zara Phillips to wed Mike Tindall. This time it was a more low-key and intimate affair than the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, as The Queen’s granddaughter Zara Phillips wed her long-time boyfriend Mike Tindall on Saturday 30 July, 2011. The names are familiar because he’s a former Captain of the English rugby team and of course Zara is daughter of the Princess Royal, Princess Anne. Zara and Mike have been together more than 7 years and they’re finally tying the knot. This is a relatively small wedding by Royal standards – a mere 400 and it will be held at Canongate Kirk in Scotland. But they pack in the Royals and celebrities just the same.

The wedding dress chosen by Zara Phillips was designed by one of the Queen’s favorite couturiers Stewart Parvin. A chevron pleated bodice revealing dramatic inverted pleats on a dropped waist was designed to create a bell-shaped silhouette. Silk tulle straps form a V at the back and the bust is in silk duchess satin, with simple bias-cut raw edged ribbons of top-stitched silk faille and duchess satin decorating the neckline and empire seam.

The crowds cheered on the many Royals arriving for this happy occasion – the mother of the bride, Princess Anne, and her husband Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, Prince Edward and Sophie, Countess of Wessex, Prince Andrew and his daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie and of course Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, as well as Prince Harry, Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall. Last of the Royals to arrive at the Kirk were the Queen and Prince Philip, who received an enormous cheer from the waiting crowds.

Set against a swept-up hairstyle and a tulle veil, the bride also wore a diamond tiara on loan from her mother, the Princess Royal. With the many Rugby stars in attendance, it was celebrity spotting time for the crowds and Zara’s godfather, former Formula One racing champion Sir Jackie Stewart was also among the guests. Following their exchanging of wedding vows Zara and Mike will celebrate with a private wedding reception at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the queen’s official home in Scotland. Royal guests and celebrities to attend the ceremony included The Queen, Prince Philip, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince Harry and Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall. Rugby stars such as Johnny Wilkinson and Austin Healey were also in attendance.
