Sneak Peek: Sketches Wedding Dresses Fall 2012 Runway Part.2

Augusta Jones designer Charlotte Leung looked to two of the past century’s most iconic decades for her Fall 2012 inspiration: from the 1920s, she drew on bias cuts, high necklines, looser shapes, and jewels; and from the ’50s, she borrowed tailored silhouettes, boat necklines, and beautifully handcrafted floral details. This dress, called Rita, is a strapless, ruched organza-and-satin gown with a dramatic mermaid skirt featuring floral rosettes. It’s the kind of wedding dress, Leung says, that “makes you feel like a movie star walking the red carpet.”(above). Below, the beading at the neckline is super chic and adds a vintage touch to a modern gown.” Expect to see designs cut from silk taffeta, lace, chiffon, and organza, all featuring Badgley Mischka’s signature vintage-inspired beading and embroideries.

To evoke the dramatic details of the Baroque period, this Celestina by Junko Yoshioka gown layers two different Chantilly laces across the bustier, giving the gown added dimension and texture feature matelassé, shantung, embroidered lace, and patterned sequins.

This season, Hannant will revisit the cold-weather months, but this time in a palette of frosty silvers and understated textures. This gown, for example, combines the two inspiration points with a silver Chantilly lace tiered halter design features vintage distressed embellishments, slinky bias-cut crepe satin, sequins, and layered, languid tulle.

British designer Jenny Packham says she drew inspiration for her Fall 2012 collection from the glamorous serenity of nocturnal butterflies, balletic silhouettes, and sculptured corsetry feature French lace, cascading silk chiffons, and gleaming satins.
